Please join us on Wednesday, Jan. 9, for the second installment of the Mission Delivery Leadership Club (formerly known as the Council Operations Breakfast Club). We encourage both employees and volunteers to join in each month as we discuss current topics that focus on optimizing the delivery of the Scouting experience through councils and units.
Starting with this installment, we will begin broadcasting one session in the morning at 9 a.m. CST and one in the evening at 7 p.m. CST. We will again be “live streaming” from the second-floor Web conference center at the National Council. Both sessions will be totally devoted to a discussion of the Voice of the Scout program. Ed Martin, Mission Impact team leader, and Mike Watkins, VOS director, will lead the discussion.
Unprecedented in the nonprofit industry, the BSA launched the Voice of the Scout program in 2012 using the Net Promoter Score™ (NPS) methodology, which measures the tendency of our members to refer Scouting programs to others. The ultimate goal of VOS (which is the newest criterion in Journey to Excellence) is to create experiences so positive and powerful that subsequent referrals and positive word of mouth lead to accomplishing “the main thing”—delivering a quality Scouting experience to an ever-increasing youth membership.
With the first survey cycle in March and April and the second in October, VOS marked the first time on a nationwide scale that the BSA has requested input from Scouts, parents, volunteers, and sponsoring organizations regarding their satisfaction in, and loyalty to, Scouting. More than 93 percent of councils (268 of 286) volunteered to participate in the program, and the National Council developed and transmitted nearly 900,000 surveys via email.
Members of the VOS team will provide insight on how councils can listen, learn, and act on the information provided by the VOS dashboard to improve the customer experience of their leaders and members. To learn more about VOS, please visit www.scouting.org/jte and click on documents listed in the “Voice of the Scout” information box. Also, you can view your council’s VOS dashboard via www.myscouting.org or www.mybsa.org.
